Mobile App Analytics

Mobile app analytics refers to the use of data collected as users access and interact with a mobile app.

Mobile apps are different from many other forms of technology and with that, a majority of the verbiage is unique to its field. Non-technical team members and product owners might not find themselves familiar with the terms and vernacular used by mobile developers and project managers.

Here are some of the most common terms associated with mobile analytics:

SDK (Software Development Kit) - A Programming package that enables developers to create apps for a particular software platform or framework.

UDID - UDID is the Unique Device Identifier, a one-and-only alphanumeric that identifies a specific mobile device.

Versions - Software versioning is the process of assigning unique version numbers to states of software. These final states are known as versions (as in Version 1.0, Version 2.0, etc.).

App Store Optimization - The process of optimizing the content and structure of an app store page in order to maximize conversion rates.

App Store Ranking - The popularity of an app as measured by its sales rank within the app store or its category within the app store.

App Store Rating - The average score given to an app by users who choose to rate it.

Daily Active Users - The average number of people who use a particular app in a 24-hour period.

Device Stats - Include common attributes such as device, model, carrier, connection type, operating system version and app version.

Events - Any action that a user takes that can be measured. Usually referred to in the context of in-app events, or actions that consumers take within an app.

Installs - This is the number of times users have installed an app.

Screen Views - Screens represent the content users are viewing within an app. The equivalent concept for a website is pages.

Sessions - Describes each occasion that a user opens and interacts with an app.
